# How to setup my own domain name for my minecraft server? (Cloudflare)

# Linking Your Domain to Your Minecraft Server with Cloudflare

Linking your domain to your Minecraft server via Cloudflare is a simple process that helps you create an easier-to-remember address for your server.
Follow these steps to set up your domain correctly.

## Step 1: Create a Cloudflare Account

Go to the [__Cloudflare website__](https://www.cloudflare.com/) and create a free account if you don’t already have one.
Follow the registration instructions and add your domain to Cloudflare.

## Step 2: Change the Nameservers

Cloudflare will provide you with custom nameservers.
Log in to your domain registrar and replace the current nameservers with the ones from Cloudflare.
This may take a few hours to take effect.

## Step 3: Add a DNS Record

Log in to your Cloudflare account and select your domain.
Go to the **DNS** tab in the Cloudflare dashboard.

Add a new record:

* Click **Add Record**
* Select **A** as the record type
* For **Name**, enter the subdomain you want to use (e.g., `play` for `play.yourdomain.com`)
* For **IPv4 address**, enter the IP address of your Minecraft server
* Set **Proxy status** to **DNS Only** (grey cloud)
* Click **Save**

## Step 4: Add an SRV Record (for custom ports)

If your server uses a non-standard port (not 25565), add an **SRV** record:

* Click **Add Record**
* Select **SRV** as the record type
* Fill in the fields as follows:

```
Name: _minecraft._tcp.play.yourdomain.com
TTL: Auto
Priority: 0
Weight: 5
Port: 25565 (or your custom server port)
Target: play.yourdomain.com
```

* Click **Save**

## Step 5: Test Your Domain

Allow a few minutes for DNS to update.
Then try connecting to your Minecraft server using the new domain (e.g., `play.yourdomain.com`) to verify everything works.

## FAQ

**Why do I need to change my nameservers?**
Changing your nameservers to Cloudflare allows Cloudflare to manage your DNS requests, which is required for their services.

**How long does it take for DNS changes to apply?**
It can take up to 24 hours for DNS changes to fully propagate, though it usually happens much faster.

**Can I use Cloudflare with my current hosting provider?**
Yes, Cloudflare works with most hosting providers. Just make sure you enter the correct IP addresses and settings in the Cloudflare dashboard.

✅ Done! Your domain is now linked to your Minecraft server.
